Krishan Manav as an actor

From my childhood when I was in school had always been the admirer of Dilip Kumar and used to act copying him. How he delivered the dialogues, I used to deliver  like him. Not only that my hair style and my expressions, my walk and style of expressing his sorrows as drunkard when my friends saw me in his style, they started telling ARRE YAAR TU YAHAN KIYA KAR RAHA HAI, TERA GHAR TO BOMBAY HAI JAHAN TUJHE PRODUCER, DIRECTOR DEKHEN GE TO JHAT TUJHE LE LENGE. These words of friends had always been putting me into mind, I f I had not been in BOMBAY, the film makers will sigh. Moreover I used to act as Mjama Wala selling fake medicines, my acting left an impression that I really a Majma wala. Such impression on my mind made me so crazy and I took little money of Rs.32.00 and absconded myself without saying a single word to my parents and arrived at BOMBAY VT. It was 1956, when I was 17 years old. I started going studio to studio, but the watchmen pushed me out and could not enter into any studio. I struggled for a week and became penny less, no food only water, sleeping on footpaths, ultimately within a week I went out of pocket, no money was with me to eat something, hesitation was that if I ask somebody to give me food, he may push me like a beggar, which is not in my blood, hence could not survive in Bombay more than a week.  On my return to home my father said to my mother, 'LAUT KE BUDHU GHAR KO AAYE.' But I was not disheartened and decided to be again in Bombay and will try to become an actor.
It was 1962, one of my friend who came to Bombay on deputation and started serving in Aarey Dairy, he was well aware of my interests to become an actor, posted me a letter and asked me to be at Bomaby. It was a great chance for me and I immediately rushed. There was no problem of shelter as may friend was living in a flat in Aarey Colony. Near about a month passed nothing could be achieved. I had absconded from my home this time also. When I was roaming near Gate of India, saw a queue in front of the Recruiting Office, just at footsteps of Taj Hotel, I also joined the queue and till evening  along with others got selected to join Army.  I with some selected recruits was given a Railway Warrant to proceed to Bangalore, where ASC  CENTER (South) is located. So, I joined the Army and after the completion of training when I went back to home, it was great pleasure because every body said 'DEKHA KITNA SAMAJHDAAR HAI, AB YEH ACTING VACTING KE PEECHHE NAHIN BHAGEGA'.  I served the Army for nine year as Havildar Clerk GD/SD but my passion to be an actor never graved. While serving Army I had a chance to be at Bombay on tour from my Station HeadquarterAhmedabad. While serving Ahmedabad I had chance to see JCO Subedar who in the Supply Depot Ahmedabad told me that he was uncle of KAUSHAL BHARTI, a renowned writer of RAM AUR SHYAM, AADMI, DIL DIYA DARD LIYA and many other films which were hit on box office, because he had been knowing about me that I am interested in films. I was given temporary duty to BOMBAY, as if the God had given me the chance to visit Bombay with approach now with the filmy person. So I visited Bombay and with the help of this great writer, I with my wife had chance to see studios, recording and dubbing studios, could gain the knowledge how the films are made. During the tenure of my service in the Army till 1971 middle, I earned an ample money. I started thinking with that amount I can start my own business and earn a lot, then could have chance to be in Bombay and fulfill my ambition to become an actor. With this thought I  applied for  discharge on compassionate grounds.  Though I faced opposition from my father and father-in-law, but it was my firm decision and replied them,' I will enter into my business.'  So left Army and started my own business of printing press at Karnal.
It was 1971 when I was with printing press business and met with a great loss after three years.  Till now I was blessed with my two daughters, and due to loss nobody was with me because I never listened to my elders and relatives. I with my family though living in Karnal but were not having been in touch with relatives. My wife who was well aware of I can do something at BOMBAY only, so she asked me to proceed and as such ultimately I left for BOMBAY. So I left my wife alone with two daughters at Karnal.  In 1974, I was in Bombay and it was my fourth chance. In the meantime I had started writing and wanted to explore the writing talent now, because I had little bit hope to with Kaushal Bharti and he may push in the field of writing. He was then engaged with writing and directing film Darinda, the producers Mr. Gulati belong to Karnal and had hotel business at Pomposh the owner of Neelam Hotel Bandra, so it was another back up for me and was hopeful now. During my many visit in the office of film Darinda, I met Mr. Ranbir Pushp, who had arrived from Patiala and we both were with the hope that Kaushal Bharti will definitely response because he hails from Rajpura just near to Patiala and I had relations with his uncle. We both started living together. At that time the fashion of being a straggler was very much different than that of to-days. We lived together for four months, in the meantime my wife became sick and she was on death bed. So I came back but Ranbir Pushp went on struggling  and to-day he has 66 films and Agni Sakshi a National Award winning film are on his credit. On my coming back to home, my wife could recover by the grace of God but I could not be at Bombay. With the help of Ranbir Pushp I joined a publishing house as salesman and from that I became a publisher and got myself settled at Rohtak. In March 1980 I shifted to Rohak and till then I had on my credit near about 22 Radio Plays which were broadcast from AIR Rohtak and by now I was placed on the penal list of HARYANA writers. This recognition was awarded to me by Haryana Sahitya Akademi, Chadigarh, who had given me the financial grant to get the radio plays collection be published. So my two books came out as CHAUTHHA KOAN and THHOONTHH, as I mentioned as writer in my blog.

Till 1996, I earned a lot, had Kothi in Model Town Rohtak, owned a Maruti Van Omni, blessed with three daughters whom I got them married till now and blessed with a son NEERAJ DHINGRA, who was studying in plus 2, visited Mumbai and started my own film, got two songs recorded. When I came back to Rohtak , with the policy of Goverment, my publishing again met with a great loss and then it was the decision of the family to be at Mumbai and  remain there. So I shifted to Mumbai with my wife and son in 1998. In the beginning small offers came to me as wrtier. In the mean time Lashkra Channel cropped up and I was engaged to writer their Khat Layee Shukriya and my son who got the basic training as Director from Indian Film Directors' Association under the signature of Sh. BR Chopra joined UTV serial SHAGUN as an Associae Director. BUS GUZARA CHAL PADA. But in 2003 my wife became the patient of cancer and I had to be in my parental city and her parental city Karnal  for treatment. On 2nd August she had last breath and left with her memories. After this I could not be easy to write, but became sad. After two years, till my son also got married, asked me to face camera as an actor as I had been contributing my voice to AIR Rohtak as B High artist. This suggestion came from my son, it was a just of dream of childhood which I may come true in my life. This was a turning point for me as an actor and till now I am acting. When my son offered me to do so, a friend of mine Mr. Pawan Tyagi who took me to still photographer and got my stills. He advised me to visit production houses, ad companies, coordinators and other sources, who can have look your pictures will definitely call you. During this period I had a chance to act in Samwad Serial Shikwah. I did so with my pictures. Have a look on my pictures -

These are the pictures leaving an impression with the serial producers, film  makers, ad film makers and video film makers started offering me the roles in different get up.  When I visited Shyam Benegal's House , he after three days of dropping my photographs in his office called and offered me a role of Moti LAL Nehre in his serial Untold Story of Subhash Chandra Bose which was on telecast at Sahara Channel. It boosted me like any thing. And then till to date the serials, films, DVD films, Ads, Video Albums, Reality Shows and Promos, which I did so far are here are uncountable, even I can relate, the films in which I acted are 18, serials I have crossed 125, Ads and promos 19, One the Ad I go a chance to be shot in Krakow city of Poland. This shoot was in December, 2011. Image of some pictures offered me the role of Judge, the last serial in which I performed as Judge is ADALAT, telecast on 4-5 February 2012. And in some of the serials I performed as corporate office holder as In charge.

Some times I was offered with rich look and sometimes offers came to me as -

negative Pandit  and as positive Panadit.

Such roles were offered in many of the serials . When I was given the get up of as Sarpanch in Naa Aana Iss Desh Mein LAADO, my look was as under.

On seeing me as Sarpanch I was offered a character in Balika Vadhu and my getup was as under. This photograph is of that time when SUGNA became widow and she was restricted to join the Holi festival and I was the person who asked villagers to let her join and enter into the temple.

On seeing the pics as below the Peace Channel offered the role as

  •
  •

MAULVI
One of my friend and Difector who was involved to shoot Haryanavi/Punjabi DVD Film and shooting in Haryana in Sonepat District offered me the role as Kartar Singh a Railway employee and after retirement he becomes -
TEERORIST

And he faces that his family members became the victim of terrorism and his at the ground of cremation transforms and becomes as a man with pure soul and he shifts from Punjab to Haryana in a village where his grand daughter falls in love with Haryanavi Jat boy and he is the man who fights for the youngsters love mentioning that love has no caste and creed. He lives like saint, the picture shows him a thorough gentle man in the village..

The story of becoming of an actor does not end with these only. It will continue as acting is passion, an opportunity in different get ups and to bring the expressions as per the demand of the character becomes a sign of good actor. I would like to mention when Parivaar serial of Meditech started I was offered a role of cobbler. I performed as cobbler and every body of the production house appreciated. Some one asked me to perform as cobbler, you do not hesitate. I said no, the character is character  and challenge for the artist. Enjoy with soul and your body language, you will not hesitate but enjoy.
Last but not the least I must tell you that I am the member of Cine and T.V. Artist Association, Mumbai and will remain member till my last breath. Recently I performed in serial which is to be brought by Rajshree Production a forthcoming serial JHIL MIL SITARON KA AANGAN HOGA as Madhav Kaka - a remarkable character. Any body who wants to become an actor must understand while performing he is not so and so but a character in which he is performing.

Krishan Manav as a writer

Writing is a such passion that one cannot leave it till his last breath. It was my school days, when I was studying in ninth standard, all of sudden an incident happened in my life and started thinking, penned it and the title of the story crop up in my mind MUSKAN KA RAHISYA. I penned the story and gave to my teacher to read that. He got that story published in school magazine and the teachers started appreciating the story. That was the day for me I became crazy about writing. Another factor I wanted to be an actor like Dilip Kumar and this aspect of my performances were also appreciated. I used to sing a song of Yahudi film 'Yeh Mera Diwanapan Hai Ya Mohabbat Ka Saroor'. This made me c5razt o be at BOMBAY. As a result I made a theft of Rs.32.00 and with this amount I left for Bombay. I was fulfilled two passions,  a writer and an actor. I was not aware of how to enter in the film industry. Since I had absconded my mother was very much worried about me, but my father was not. I remained in BOMBAY for a week but nothing  could be achieved. Became out of pocket. Even not a single pie was with me to eat and being egoist, I did not ask for food from any body and left Mumbai ticket less. It was 1956. When I reached home my father said to my mother,' DEKH, LAUT KE BUDHU GHAR KO AAYE'. Though it was my first defeat, but it made me so tough and hard that I will again be at Bombay and would become an actor or writer.

It was 1962, when a close friend of mine came on deputation from Natinal Dairy Research Institue, Karnal to Aarey Dairy, Bomaby and he was well aware of my talent and passion for to be an actor and writer, he posted me a letter. It was 2nd time I again absconded from my home. This time I had not stolen any amount, but having with me not a big amount but which I earned as laborer was in my pocket Remained with my friend and straggled a lot, but nothing could come fruitful. One day I had been roaming near Gate of India. I saw a long queue before the Recruiting Office, just at the footsteps of Taj Hotel. I also joined the queue and in the evening some of the persons were selected to join Army in ASC and a group railway warrant was give and we all went to Bangalore to join in the Army Service Corps Center. For nine months I had to pass through a tough training. On completion of the training, I was given leave with posting order to join Headquarters Western Command SHIMLA. On my arrival at home, this time my father did not commented on me but appreciated. From this period to till 1971 I had served with many Headquarters and was promoted to Havildar Clerk GD/SD.  By this time I got married and blessed with one daughter when I was serving in Station Headquarters Ahmedbad. While in Station Headquarters Ahmed, a Subedar ( Non Commissioned Officer) came in my contact and we had many times conversation about being in films. His nephew Kaushal Bharti was in film industry as a writer. I was surprised, how a beautiful chance was. I was sent on temporary duty to BOMBAY. It was a just  blessing from the almighty that I would be visiting Bombay with the recommendations of one who was deeply closed to a writer who had films like RAM AUR SHYAM, AADMI, DIL DIYA DARD LIYA on his credit. So I visited him and could have the chance to be in studios, which I could not had in 1956 and 1962 and studied how the films are being edited and brought on screen, a wonderful technical job one cannot think at home at that time, because till then no body was aware of about the films as today. It was another hit to my mind that I had to be as an actor and or as a writer, because now my writing skill also got developed. So I decide to leave Army. I applied for discharge from the Army on compassionate grounds.Though I faced the elders not to leave the Army, but who could change my mind to be an actor and writer. So I ignored my parents. Till now I was blessed with one daughter. In 1971 after Pak-Indo war left the Army and started my Printing business at Karnal. Within three years I met with a great loss, so along with my family had to survive in a difficult phase. In the mean time I had been writing stories and working to survive. But my wife was aware of the fact that I had to in Mumbai and can earn a lot from film industry. We both have seen Kaushal Bharti who had extended a great love and harmony when we both visited him. She asked leave me alone with her two daughters and leave for Mumbai. It was 1974.
It was my fourth visit to Mumbai. When I started struggling, I met Mr. Ranbir Pushp who had arrived from Patiala with a letter for Kaushal Bharti. We both visited many times the office of Kaushal Bharti when he was busy in writing and Directing the film Darinda. I spent in Mumbai for four months, but when I heard that my wife is on death bed, left Mumbai and went back to KARNAL. I, with the help of Ranbir Pushp, joined the publishing house as salesman. In 1980 I could establish my own publishing house and got myself along with my three daughters settled at Rohtak. Why I choose Rohtak, the reason behind had developed relations with MDU Rohtak as a book supplier. From 1978 onward
  •  During this period I started writing the radio plays with the help and guidance of Sh. Jai Bhagwan Gupta, PEX and Sh. Shyam Gupta, the Producer at AIR Rohtak. From my fourth play CHAUTHHA KONA  the Radio Authorities, the then the Station Director was Mr. M A Rakesh and others started saying Krishan Manav is the best playwright in Hryana.  CHAUTHHA KONA broadcast ten times and each time I got the royalty. It was nominated for National Radio Play competition.  The play produced last time and was to sent for competition, the  renowned radio artist NAND LAL SHARMA from Jaipur was asked to play as hero. This play could not top at that time. However my writing skill improved and contributed 22 Radio plays to AIR ROHTAK. In the meantime my name was included in the list of Haryana Sahitya Akademi, CHANDIGARH as writer of Haryana, when I was based at ROHTAK.  I was awarded financial aid for getting a collection of four Radio Plays to be published.  Hence my first book came out entitled as CHAUTHHA KONA.

  •       The process of my publishing house at my own was in full swing and till then I was awarded grant for the second book entitled  THHOONTHH. It has the collection of five radio plays.

  •                     The above two books are the collection of nine radio plays. The plays are -
  •                      REIT KA SAMANDAR
  •                      FAISLA
  •                      CHAUTHHA KONA
  •                       DOOSRI DUNIYA - I would like to tell about this play, is my personal observation and insisted to write on this.  I saw Swami' function and disparity between the Bhagatas' and the persons  who were standing out side to have something to eat. Now I am coming to collection of plays in THHOONTHH. Before writing the names of the plays I would like to mention, the All India Radios have given subjects to write and broadcast as play.  For THHOONTHH, a subject was given to me for writing on family planning. As a result when I gave thought on it, it came to my mind whosoever
  • is lethargic, does not have ambitions, does not want come out of the present position in which he is surviving, though earning a lot, but does not want to come up and his life ends, is to be defined as THHOONTHH. Any way one has to think according to his mental ability and surroundings.
  • This book has the following plays-
  •           CHHOT BADI LAKEERIEN
  •            AMAWAS KE SITARE
  •            THHOONTHH
  •             TUMHARA SWARG CHHOTA HAI
  •            THHEHRA HUA SACH
  •            And many other plays which I do not remember all, but the prominent and appealing plays were, TUSHARMANI, KICK, RADHA KA GHAR and mnay more, the number goes to twenty two which were broadcast from AIR, ROHTAK.  The last radio play which broadcast from MUMBAI, Prasar Bharti in 1998 was Taj Mahal. Apart from my writing I was deeply involved in publishing house.

In between a phase of Haryanavi came up after the success of first Hryanavi film Chandrawal. As I am known as film writer, during my stay in Rohtak an offer came tome to write Haryanavi Film. I penned one Haryanavi film PHAGAN AYA RAI. This film released in 1986. With my continuation of publishing house I earned a lot and wanted to be producer writer. It was 1996 when I  launched a picture, two songs were recorded. But in 1996 with the policy of the Government my publishing house came on the edge of winding up, hence a heavy loss. By this time I got married my three daughters and again with family decided to be at Mumbai. My son was in +2. I with my wife and a son shifted to Mumbai 1998. During this year one of my radio play was broadcast on Prasar Bharti, AIR Mumbai entitled Taj Mahal based on the people who were going to participate a political rally in Delhi. My son expressed to be a Director hence he joined  for Direction course with Indian Film Directors' Associatuion. He completed the course under the signature of Sh. Late BR Chopra.

Now I am coming for writing of films-

Though not a big achievement I gained so far, but being in process and never ending efforts brought me fruitful results when the phase of Haryanavi films crop up and at that time, I was earning not so much, but more than the survival's requirement, and a Haryanavi Film CHANDRAWAL  earned box office hit, the people from Haryana  came to me and asked  why don't you write Haryanavi Film.  Sure, I was based  at Rohtak, the place called really place of Haryanavi dialect, started writing.  The subject was very much liked.  The people who came in touch to produce the film asked me to  accompany to Mumbai so that the songs be recorded and the crew is engaged to direct and arrangements be made for post production. Here I met Mr. Yash Chauhan , who was given the responsibility for direction and its title was registered PHAGAN AYA RAI. This film in Haryana, nearby areas which have the Haryanavi dialect and Delhi made a good collection and it was telecast at Doordarshn ,many times. The credit for direction goes to Mr. Yash Chauhan, as he proved. He appreciated my writing work and asked me why  I am not joining the field of Hindi films. I could not explain because it was difficult for me to base at Mumbai. Hence a big gap I faced and when in 1998 shifted from Rohtak and decided to be at Mumbai, again a difficult phase started for struggle period  for writing. In 1990 a film came to me for writing DIL SE TERI YAAD NA JAYE. This film though completed, the producer could not release it in all the territories. Now the offers for me to start with television writing that too in Punjabi, when Lashkara channel cropped up.

         As television writer -

When Lashkara channel crop up in Mumbai, offer came to me to write KHAT LAYEE SHUKRIYA. As I am  Punjabi spoken can read Gurmukhi but unable to write.  I started writing in Hindi as Punjabi.  This job I could perform for one year. In between when Samwad Production House was going to poduce SHIKWAH for DD-1 Channel, they invited me to give Urdu version as the story was written in Hindi. I did so and participated in dialogue writing for some of  the episodes. After  the demise of my wife for a little period, I could find myself unable to concentrate on writing work.  In the mean time my son NEERAJ DHINGRA, who was the Chief Assistant Director for SHAGUN serial which was being produced by UTV, he changed his profession from direction to Scheduler and now-a-days, he is a Supervising Producer, then asked me why I cannot start with acting, because I had given the voice to AIR as  B High artist. Then I entered into field of acting.  The dream I had seen in my childhood, from November 2005, as I related above Mr. Pawan Tyagi took me to still photographer and after disbursing the photographs to production houses, ad agencies and to coordinators now  called business managers, started acting in SHIKWAH as well as an English Film with Pankaj Kapoor and Dilip Tahil.

I got my self engaged with Lashkara Channel to write their episodes Khat Layee Shukriya. It continued for year. A little bit writing I was carrying and by this my son got himself engaged with UTV as an Associate Director for their serial SHAGUN.  I with my writing have been surviving till I receive a break. In between my wife became a patient of cancer, hen I had o leave for my home Karnal. She left for heaven on 2nd August,2003. It was great shock for me and then after I could not continue with my writing work. In between my son got married. After two years my son asked to start with acting and so I did. It was 2005.

In 2010 an offer came to me to write a film. Its cast was to be finalised with Raveena Tondon. Before signing she asked to see the script. I scripted a film entitled AGNI the Fire. She liked the script and agreed to act in it. Mukesh Rishi and other cast was finalised. This film is still under production. I had a theme on mercy killing since 2002. In 2002 I got a story registered wih Film Writers' Association entitled Dr. Avinash. I could not continue with screenplay and dialogues for this film. In the meantime a film GUZARISH was released under the Direction of Sanajay Leel Bhansali. People started saying now you cannot be on with mercy killing as it has appeared. But my way of writing and the research I made on Google, I now have scripted the film and got is title registered as ZINDGI ON DEMAND. I am with all my friends and asking them to come forward to produce this film as it is the dire need of human beings across the world.

Writing is a such passion which never ends. I have many subjects to be launched but first of all this project is got to be materialized, it is I think a dream project and it is got to be produced a festival film.
